‘Gardeners Supporting Farmers’ Open Garden Day Saturday 29 March

Excitement is building for the impromptu ‘Gardeners Supporting Farmers’ Open Garden Day in Armidale on Saturday 29 March.

With the support of the four local Garden Clubs – Armidale Garden Club, Armidale Town & Country Garden Club, Guyra Garden Club and Uralla Garden Club, this Open Day has been organized to support farmers.

Do please try and be part of it! Brave garden owners, with only 3 weeks notice and following an unseasonably dry and desperate summer are opening their gardens from 10am to 4pm. Three are town gardens, all within walking distance of each other along The Boulevarde (near The Orphanage). Another 5 gardens are on the outskirts of the city; one at Saumarez Ponds, one each on the Grafton Road, Castledoyle Road, Milne Rd and another on the Gara Road.

Visitors will be able to purchase morning and afternoon tea provided by Garden Club members. These will be at Jocelyn & Ray’s at Welbourne Place, Saumarez Ponds and at Sue & Rob’s at The Boulevarde. A sausage sizzle lunch will be available at Lou and John’s at 113 Milne Rd. Ern & Diane will have plants for sale at 21 The Boulevarde, there is a plant and cake stall at Sally & Danny’s at 333 Grafton Rd and a native plant stall at Jeremy & Greta’s at 303 Castledoyle Road.

Raffle prizes that have been donated are simply too numerous to list! Armidale, both businesses and individuals, have been extraordinarily generous – go to our Facebook page or the website for lots more info. Talking of the website, our sincere thanks go to Nucleo for donating their time to create the website; . Have a look, it really is striking! Use the map to plan your tour around the gardens, read a little about them as well and also work out which raffle prize you are going to win! Thank you also to Faye Hughes for her map-making skills and the eye-catching poster she created which has been the highlight of our publications. Seven of the gardens have a clue in them for a Children’s Treasure Hunt. Each entry form has a series of questions, with one quite obvious answer to be found at each of the 7 gardens. The prize is a fabulous set of children’s gardening tools and a child sized wheelbarrow donated by Armidale Home Timber and Hardware. So they don’t feel left out, there will be a Treasure Hunt for the adults, too! More difficult questions but a great prize donated by Black Mountain Nursery – for just a $2 entry fee! Please try to support this, in aid of our farmers.

If you cannot get there, donations are welcomed – go to the website, the Facebook page, or phone {local landline prefix}53850.
