Congratulations Everyone!
Armidale has won the Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) NSW 2012 Sustainable Communities Award. The award was presented on the weekend in Kyogle, winners of the award last year.
This is a huge achievement, due the vision and work over many years of councillors, council staff, community groups and organisations, like yours!
The assessor, one of KAB’s most experienced, said “Armidale is perhaps one of the most attractive towns I’ve seen in 15 years assessing. It really is a beautiful town”. He commented on the City and its historic buildings, parks, gardens and playing fields, well maintained homes and gardens, and the cleanliness of the streets, footpaths and verges.
He described Armidale as a model for sustainable communities, for our dedication to the philosophy of community development, volunteering, cooperation, and commitment to environmental wellbeing, backed with obvious civic pride.
He said Armidale is an attractive, very liveable and delightful city; focused on the philosophy of sustainability with community well being, heritage, nature and environment at its heart.
And we all live here!
The award is on display in the Civic Administration Building. Come and have a look! We’ve all won this award and it’s something we can be very proud of.
More good news, the award this weekend means we are National Finalists and in early December we will be judged again competing with cities judged the best from around Australia.
