Intentional Community – meeting Thu 14 Apr

In an earlier newsletter, I wrote about “Sustainable Community Housing”.  I’ve been really encouraged by the response, and now have names of 30 people who have expressed interest in or support for the idea – thank you all.  As a result of your enthusiasm, I’ve agreed to be the convenor of an SLA action group with a working title of “Village”.

I now know that a more common term for this concept is “eco-village”, a form of “Intentional Community”.  I believe that Armidale is an ideal, if not the ideal place to build such a community, and that now is the ideal time (before any more intelligent city-dwellers falling in love with our region force property prices up too high!).

I’ve had an email from George Yogaplex, the manager? of the Etherion Ring Cedars Intentional Community west of Guyra who will be visiting the region from their main base in Melbourne this week. George has offered to talk to us at an informal gathering on thu 14 April and then arrange to visit their fledgling community before they return to Melbourne on 22 April.  I’m suggesting we visit on Sunday.

The gathering will be at Cathie Lamont’s house from 7pm on Thu 14 April.  Call her on {local land line}2 8240 for more details.

My apologies for the meeting, as I’m still overseas. But in case you didn’t know, we were endeavouring to set up a co-housing project at the eastern end of Brown St, but it never got off the ground. We became interested in it because my neighbour Loretta Fitzgerald had a student or students from Denmark staying with her. Denmark is where co-housing started, and she was given a book about it. She probably still has iAll the best for this Thursday’s meeting(s).
