Itinerary for the Pilliga Forest Coal Seam Gas Tour

April Friday 13th to Sunday 15th 2012 If time constraints prevent you from participating in all activities then let me know when you will arrive and depart. Meet at Pilliga Pottery if you are unable to participate in Friday activities. Food- self cater for all or some of your food, or eat at the Pilliga Pottery Blue Wren Café and Kitchen. Some prices- cooked breakfast $10-$16, Packed lunch $8-10. Cafe sells cappuccino, bread rolls, snacks, meals Accommodation – Bed in shared room $30/person/night, or camp $8. Friday 13th 7.15am– Meet at Tourist Information Centre Armidale, bring morning tea, packed lunch, drinks and snacks. 7.30am- Leave Tourist information Centre with extra passengers Armidale to Baradine 4 hours 15 minutes driving time Refuel in Coonabarabran, there is no fuel available in the Pilliga, service station in Baradine closed on weekends. 12.00 midday Meet Pilliga Forest Discovery Centre Baradine, Picnic at Dandry gorge. Bushwalk at the Sculptures in the Scrub at Dandry Gorge. Led by Pat Schulz. 6.30pm Friday 13th – Meet at Pilliga Pottery for dinner. Talk with Carmel about the Pilliga and coal seam gas. Video showing in the dining room – NSW/Qld Coal Seam Gas Battlefields.

Saturday 14th – 9am Depart Pilliga Pottery. Visit the eastern Pilliga, view across to Mt Kaputar, explore sandstone outcrop, wildflowers, Pilliga Mouse habitat. Picnic lunch. Visit the gas field with local farmer Tony Pickard – water treatment plant, evaporation ponds, site of recent spills, gas pipeline, pilot production wells, site of water discharge. Dusk – search for koalas along Bohena Ck. 6.30pm – Return to Pilliga Pottery for dinner. Friends of the Pilliga group from Coonabarabran join for dinner and discussion. Accommodation – Bed in shared room $30/person/night, or camp $8. AACSG is booking for the whole group.

Sunday 15th: 9am Depart Pilliga Pottery. Visit the sandstone caves, bushwalk. Lunch. Visit Santos exploratory well on the Liverpool Plains near Gunnedah, meet local landholders.
