Open Forum: Sharing Resources in a Sustainable Community

For the next instalment of its popular monthly forums, SLA will be taking a slightly different approach.  The topic is “Sharing Resources in a Sustainable Community”, and we’d like to use this forum as an opportunity to celebrate the growing sustainable living community in Armidale.  What better way to do this than by sharing what we already have (practising rather than preaching!) over a shared supper prepared (or warmed) in the kitchen at Kent House.

The evening promises to be fun, practical and inspirational as we share ideas and resources.  The kitchen will be open from 6pm if you wish to warm food.  To keep things informal we suggest finger food or soup as there will be no formal dining tables to eat at.  There is a second room for children/teenagers who would prefer their own space.  Here are some suggestions for things to share …

  • finger foods or soup (especially if we’ve grown or preserved it ourselves)
  • something to drink
  • stories, ideas, songs or photos of sharing
  • your precious company
  • business cards (or maybe “un-business” cards that indicate your personal/sustainability interests would be more interesting!)
  • musical instruments (including voice!) and talents
  • decorations for the venue
  • time to set up, clean up!
  • assistance with child-minding
  • transport to the forum (email the organisers if you’d like to car-pool)
  • items to “freecycle” (small items only, please, or photos of larger items!)
  • anything else you can think of – let the coordinators know!
  • news to share (we’ll aim to share news around 8 pm)

We’ll provide whiteboards and noticeboards to add your ideas and photos to, tables for food and items to freecycle … and there is a piano for the musically inclined.

So come along prepared for a party rather than a meeting, bringing whatever you would like to share to Kent House (141 Faulkner St, opposite Central Park) on Thursday 4 August.  The doors will be open from 6.00 for an approximate 7pm dinner time.  If you’d like to help with preparations, email Cathie or phone on {local landline prefix}2 8240.

If this is your first SLA meeting (or you’d like an introduction), please make yourself known to the Action Group convenors who will be wearing name badges.  All welcome – hope to see you there.
