It takes a village to raise a child

While our children played (and argued!) on the trampoline at Helen and Terry’s place last Sunday, some members of the Heart and Soul group sat on the grass beside the kids to chat about ways to build a family-friendly community in a transition town.  We talked about the things that both deter and enhance a sense of connection to our neighbours and community – old and young alike.  The outcome: we decided we wanted to try to encourage these connections – to meet regularly, inclusive of all ages and to recreate some important links.  To begin, we would like to invite all those interested to an “Armidale family picnic” to coincide with the next two Farmers/Car-boot markets (1st and 3rd Sundays in February).  Bring picnic rugs to the play area next to the markets any time from 10am and you’ll hopefully find some other like-minded souls to share, play and eat with.  Come and talk about re-creating “the village that it takes to raise our children”.  Please email Cathie (cjlcrabapple@bigpond.com) or phone 6772 8240 if you’d like to participate in further conversations on this subject.
