GetUp! has launched a campaign to oppose the Federal Government’s intention to cut $250 million from their Solar Flagships program, a program meant to fund large-scale solar power stations in Australia.
GetUp! recommends other savings, for example: $600 million would be earned by eliminating the oil excise tax exemption for ‘Condensate’, a light oil extracted as a bi-product of gas extraction, and primarily processed for use in motor vehicles (as petrol). It was given an exemption from the oil excise in the 1970s as it was a nascent industry deemed to be worth of fostering in Australia.
The flood package is being debated in Parliament this week, so we need to act urgently. The government is relying on support from key independents and the Greens to pass the legislation.
