Second hand plant book sale at Armidale Tree Group

Armidale Tree Group has the pleasure of offering for sale

hundreds of books about plants and gardening,

including plant identification and ecology.

They comprise much of the collection of the late John and Beth Williams who were both botanists and conservationists, renowned for sharing their love and knowledge of the plants and ecosystems of northern NSW.

John was an author or co-author of many booklets enabling people with little training to start identifying local eucalypts and wattles, then rainforest trees, shrubs and vines across SE Australia. Beth was once president of Armidale Garden Club and a long-time member of Australian Plant Society (from when it was the Society for Growing Australian Plants).

So imagine their personal library!

We have for sale some rare books, guides to plants and vegetation of many parts of Australia, plants and gardens in Britain, one in Chinese, a few technical books and many of interest to the average plant lover or gardener. There are also all Beth’s Australian Plant Society publications from 1959 on, plus a few copies of several of John’s early plant identification booklets. It’s always wise to check on-line if you want current plant names and recent information, but these older books and booklets contain interesting information and can be a practical way to get started in plant identification.

Please visit our Woodland Centre and Nursery to buy books while they last. Prices range from $10 to $1. The 8 meters of shelf space they occupy might soon be reduced by other plant book lovers.

Open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday

9am to 1pm Saturdays

You will find us at 80 Mann Street which is opposite the southern end of Douglas St.

While you are here, you could take a short walk through the reserve we manage – check out the Mike O’Keefe Woodland we’ve grown and enjoy the birds on our dam.

Armidale Tree Group Inc. is a not-for-profit native plant nursery and environmental organisation. We provide quality Australian plants, home grown vegetable seedlings and environmentally friendly tree planting and weed control services in New England and Northwest NSW.
