image001Dear Friend,

We are contacting you to alert you to the Monster Climate Petition which we have just launched.  We are hoping you will help us to promote it around the county through your organisation and networks.

The petition is addressed to the House of Representatives. It draws its attention to the damage to the earth’s climate from humanity’s carbon emissions and requests the House to respect the science and build a safe climate future by enacting immediate and deep reductions in carbon emissions and supporting such strategies globally.

We want to make visible the extent and depth of community support for bi-partisan responses on climate change, and believe the time is ripe, with widespread community fear and dismay about the lack of strong and bold action.

Petitions to the House or Representatives require original pen and ink signatures. Signatures will be collected throughout August, September and October until just before the G20 meeting in Brisbane in mid-November and we intend to publicise the petition at that event. We will then present the Petition to Parliament in the last 2 sitting weeks of 2014.

The petition is available in English and 7 other community languages.

While we are confident that the majority of Australian people are hungry for leadership and strong action on the issue of climate policy, getting the petition signed by hundreds of thousands of Australians who want our politicians to cooperate to tackle climate change is a huge challenge and requires some effort from us all.

Will you promote the Petition by calling on all the people through your networks and organisation to visit the website, download the petition form, take it to their families, friends and communities to gather as many signatures as possible; and then send their forms to the Victorian Women’s Trust?

    Hi Iain/all,

I note that petitions to the parliament need to be signed by pen and paper. Might this be a good add on to the next Sustainable Living Armidale monthly forum (4 September 2014)?

    Best regards,
    Tom.
