Workshop on Managing Garden Soils

Only a few places left in this workshop, designed specifically for the home gardener!

Armidale Local Food (ALF) is offering an opportunity to learn how to make the most of your garden soil, building a healthy and productive environment for plants to grow.

The workshop will be conducted by John Davidson, a retired agricultural scientist from UNE. John has been gardening, in various ways, since the 1940s and has been ’tilling’ Armidale soils since the mid-1980s. He is more recently known as a producer of heritage seeds.

The workshop will cover some theoretical aspects of soils before moving on to practical demonstrations and  applications (with plenty of time for answering questions!) Learn about common deficiencies in Armidale soils and the best ways to correct them, cultivation techniques, soil conditioners, setting up raised beds, the importance of soil carbon, the uses and abuses of mulches and manures.

When: Saturday October 29th, 9:30 -3:00 (ish)

Where: TELL, Sattlers Rd (near the cemetery, go to the far end of Sattlers Rd)

Cost: free, but donations to Sustainable Living Armidale would be welcome ($5? $10?)

Bring: your own lunch. ALF will provide tea, coffee, goodies for morning tea.

Also remember to bring a hat, sunscreen etc.
