Armidale Urban Rivercare Group

, ,

The Armidale Urban Rivercare Group* (AURG) was established in 2001 after a number of years lobbying by local residents for rehabilitation work to be undertaken on Dumaresq Creek.

The primary objective of the AURG was to re-establish native vegetation along some sections of the creek line, and in the process of doing this, remove extensive areas of woody weeds such as privet, willow and poplars. The AURG holds regular working bees with community members, working to a plan to rehabilitate and maintain Dumaresq Creek. With a core group of ten to twenty members, working bees regularly attract numbers of between 30 and 50 people, sometimes in excess of 100.
