Let’s walk in SOLARdarity

Today, over 100 people embarked on the momentous Walk for Solar, a 325km walk from Port Augusta to Adelaide to demonstrate support for Australia’s first solar thermal plant. Some of these walkers are from AYCC NSW, just like you.

Port Augusta is home to two old coal-fired plants, which will be shut down soon. The South Australian government is now faced with a choice. They can either replace the coal plants with Australia’s very first solar thermal plant, or a plant that burns polluting gas.

Solar is where it’s at. To get this solar thermal plant we need the support of the South Australian Premier, Jay Weatherill. That’s why on Sunday 30th September, our walkers will be walking into Adelaide to deliver the tens of thousands of votes we have collected from our national Youth Decide campaign to deliver a petition to Premier Weatherill’s door.

The story of Port Augusta is bursting with opportunity. This is our chance to show just how much community energy there is behind renewable energy. This is our chance to make this a National issue that our leaders can’t ignore.

That’s where you come in. 100% Renewables is organising SOLARdarity walks across the country, and there’s one in Sydney on Sunday 30th September.

Where? Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre (next to Rozelle Markets), walking to Tanya Plibersek’s office (look for us in the AYCC t-shirts!)
When? 9am, Sunday 30th September

Can you come to the Sydney SOLARdarity walk and show your MP and Federal government the level of community support behind solar energy? RSVP here now.

Walks are happening in communities all across the country. We know not everyone can make it to Adelaide. And that’s ok. This is an easy way to show your passion and vision for a clean energy future.

Will you join us? RSVP here now.

With hope,

Andrew for AYCC NSW
