NERP has held several events over the last three years, and we continue with this winter forum. We look forward to your participation from the warmth of your home.
The Forum will include a presentation entitled The Ecology and Conservation of the Platypus followed by discussion about NSW platypus status and local participant sightings.
We welcome Associate Professor Gilad Bino who leads the Platypus Conservation Initiative at UNSW Sydney’s Centre for Ecosystem Science. His research combines field ecology, population genetics, eDNA monitoring, and telemetry to understand how platypuses respond to a changing environment, from drought and bushfire to river regulation and habitat loss.
His team runs long-term monitoring, emergency response, and reintroduction programs, including the recent return of platypuses to the Royal National Park. His work bridges rigorous science and on-ground conservation to secure the future of one of Australia’s most iconic and enigmatic mammals.
