Santos received approval from the NSW Resources Regulator on 15 March 2023 to restart four existing pilot wells in the Kahlua area within PEL 1, approximately 20km west of Gunnedah. The Kahlua area activities commenced in late 2023 and included minor civil and construction work, access tracks and gathering lines, and workover activities to restart the wells. The approval authorises the pilot wells to operate for a period of approximately two years from 2023 to 2025 while we assess the resource potential. As the reactivation activities commenced later than anticipated, I am writing to advise that Santos will be applying to the NSW Resources Regulator to continue the operation of the four existing pilot wells in the Kahlua area for a further two years to obtain the required appraisal data to determine the gas resource potential in the area.
