Have a taste for recording nature?
Join the tutor and a group of like-minded people to observe, record and enquire into the nature found in Black Gully and in your own back yard.
This is a one day a week, six-week course combining observational drawing in the field with studio work.
No experience in drawing or watercolour is necessary.
You’ll be guided and extended in the techniques and processes of:
- Observational drawing: in the field and at the Zoological Museum UNE.
- Watercolour: how to mix colours and use colour modulation to capture realism.
- 3D rendering using colour pencil and/or lead pencil (fungi, berries, bird eggs, bird and frog eyes).
- Pressing botanical specimens for gelli plate and relief printing.
- Making brushes from natural materials, and creating botanical inks from ingredients in your backyard.
- Designing and creating an adjunct journal.
Participants will be advised of the materials before the course begins: and are advised not to purchase any equipment before you hear from the tutor.

- Materials Some materials are included. Participants expected to supply their own hard-covered journal (15x15cm to A3), coloured pencils, watercolours and brushes. If they don’t have any of these, don’t purchase before being advised by the tutor week 1.
