Council has been successful in being selected as one of three regional councils to partner with the University of NSW in a new project called Smart Regional Places: Ready Set Go!
This partnership is a great opportunity for Council and the community to learn more about and prepare for the ‘smart cities’ movement. The purpose of the project is to prepare regional NSW to be ‘smart –ready’. Council is excited for the opportunity to part of this project funded by the Digital Restart Fund as part of the Smart Place Acceleration Program run by the NSW Government.
As part of this opportunity, the project team from UNSW and University of Sydney will be visiting Armidale and Guyra to engage with Council and the community to provide further details of what ‘smart’ regional places can look like and gain feedback from stakeholders as to opportunities for ‘smart’ places in our region.
At this stage, the project team is focusing on public open spaces and as a result the following locations have been chosen as sites for the team to test the project learnings. These are;
- Central Park Armidale
- Beardy Street Mall
- Dumaresq Creek lands
- Dumaresq Dam Recreation Area
- Mother of Ducks Lagoon Guyra
- Wollomombi Falls (National Park)
The intention of the stakeholder meeting will be to provide background on the project and obtain feedback as to some ‘smart’ opportunities in these particular areas.
Thank you for your consideration and we do hope a representative from your organisation can attend the meeting to have input in an exciting project for our city.
