Event: ‘Cow in the Room’ the role of livestock in managing climate

Friday, 4 Mar

In conversations around agriculture and climate change, there is often a ‘cow in the room’ that may or may not be left unaddressed.

‘The Cow in the Room: the role of livestock in managing climate’ is the first event announced as part of the 2022 AgriTech Futures Series, and will tackle that subject head on.

“We are thrilled to be kicking off the Agritech Future Series with this event in Armidale,” said Dr Lou Conway, UNE SMART Region Incubator Director.

“A fantastic program of speakers will lead discussion around how livestock can be a major contributor to reducing carbon emissions, and provide nutrient dense protein alongside other plant proteins.”

The Agritech Future Series will promote connections, and share information and knowledge to contribute to strong regional futures.

“The New England North West has a long track record for agricultural excellence and innovation,” Dr Conway said.

“The Series will bring together our producer, researcher, and technology communities to grow climate adaptive agriculture.

“This first event will address the ‘Cow in the Room’ over lunch at NOVA – a fantastic start to the series!”

The Cow in the Room: the role of livestock in managing climate‘ will be held at NOVA, 122 Faulkner Street Armidale on Friday 4 March.

Speakers at the event are:

  • Dr Annette Cowie, Senior Principal Research Scientist, Climate at NSW DPI

  • Dr Sonja Dominik, Sustainability and Welfare Research Group Leader, CSIRO
  • Dr Margaret Jewell, Carbon Neutral 2030 Manager, MLA
