Accolades to all the councillors on Armidale Regional Council today voting in the positive to declare a climate emergency. Helen Webb spoke with clarity on behalf of Armidale Climate Action to a packed council chambers full of citizens who loudly applauded her. Kyle Wellsmore spoke elegantly asking the council to show courage as they did with their handling of the water shortage. Today’s declaration is the broadest agreement yet that this unprecedented drought is not only brought about by natural cycles but it is linked to a phasing up of temperatures brought about by human induced climate change. The next step is to take action!
We are the 26th NSW regional council to have a climate emergency declaration.
Special thanks: Dale Curtis, Helen Webb, Tanya Howard, Annette Kilarr, Patsy Asch, Dorothy L Robinson, Margaret O’Connor, and Debra O’Brien
