Dr Vanessa Bible will talk at the Sustainable Living Armidale’s Thursday Forum on the topic of love of place, how it can cultivate community, and how it can be a powerful motivator for environmental action. She will focus on research conducted in the Northern Rivers, but the need to belong to places and communities is universal. When exploring the connection that people from all walks of life have towards their homes, the places they feel they belong, or even the Earth itself, what is so often revealed is not just a sense of place, or a connection to place, but a deep and enduring love.
The forum is at 7pm Kent House, Faulkner Street opposite Central Park. There will be a presentation and discussion followed by a delicious light supper. Donations are appreciated to cover costs.
Vanessa is a Lecturer in Peace Studies and History at UNE.
Thanks Vanessa and SLA for such an interesting take on people’s experiences in the climate action space. The more people tune in to how we feel, rather than what we think about environmental and other important matters, the more likely we are to realise our values align on a fundamental level. Positive changes then follow from this.
