Here are some photos on the steps to make the planter boxes/compost bins and tools/techniques to plant them out. The box dimensions are 1200 by 1200 by 900mm high, as large as any forklift pallet timber pieces are.
I am 52 years old, always enjoyed growing vegies since I was a kid, and I have built over 2 dozen planter boxes and plans for another 2 dozen before I am finished filling my backyard.
A few months back I planted out about a hundred sunflower seeds in my own seedling paper punnets. I soak seeds in a tea strainer submerged in worm juice for a few hours, before sowing — works great.
My long term goal is to have prisons use and make these planter boxes/compost bins from pine pallet timber, and I would imagine that the prisoners would have their self esteem lifted somewhat, doing something worthwhile, growing food organically etc. It takes about 2 hours to make each compost bin, by hand, no special tools, and no electric saws.
