The Armidale Tree Group is working with earthfunerals and Starfish Initiatives to establish the New England Natural Burial Ground.
The proposed facility will have great social and environmental significance. It will allow High Country residents to be the first in Australia to have the option of a genuine natural burial-a simple return to the earth that is meaningful and sustainable.
Once the natural burial ground is operational, the proceeds from each burial will be directed to the Armidale Tree Group’s Every Tree Counts initiative, and will support landscape-scale projects like the restoration of the Saumarez Creek Wildlife Corridor.
We are seeking your help to find the perfect site for the natural burial ground. The required site will be between two to ten hectares and nearby to Armidale/Uralla. It will have a reasonably level aspect, vehicle access and will benefit from eco-restoration work. The presence of some existing vegetation would be ideal. Armidale Tree Group, in collaboration with earthfunerals, will work with the successful landholder to design and implement a re-vegetation and landscaping plan for the site. There is also the possibility of earthfunerals providing funding for restoration of other areas of the property.
