Armidale Snap Rally: Let them stay

Saturday, 20 Feb
10:30 amto11:30 am

ARAR (Armidale Rural Australians for Refugees) invites you to two events:

1. Snap rally: This Saturday 20th February, “Let Them Stay” 10.30am Old Courthouse

2. Organising meeting this Sunday 21st Feb, 4.30pm Kent House, for Palm Sunday Rally.

DETAILS OF BOTH, BELOW:

1. SNAP RALLY – Saturday 20th Feb 10.30am Armidale Mall – LET THEM STAY: Churches, community groups, doctors, nurses, teachers, principals and many thousands of people across Australia have taken action, to oppose the Government’s plan to return 267 asylum seekers to Nauru, including 37 babies.

We need a change in policy to respect basic rights. A common hope is that Australia can regain credibility in the international sphere by beginning to treat people seeking asylum with dignity and respect and work towards more sustainable answers for displaced people.

Come to the Old Courthouse in the Mall at 10.30am this Saturday (20th). We will create and sign 90 ‘hearts’ – one for each baby and child at risk of return to Nauru, and deliver these later to Parliament.

2. PLANNING FOR PALM SUNDAY RALLY

Organising meeting Sunday 21st Feb at 4.30pm, Kent House

A Palm Sunday Rally will be held in Armidale on Sunday 21st February. This will focus on Australia’s refugee policy, and the creation of refugees by war and militarism.

We invite representatives of any organisation/church/youth group who share our concerns, as well as individuals, to come and help plan and organize this Rally.
