Ever wanted to learn how to earthbag? Well, you can do so in Tamworth on the next two Saturdays … and transport is available on 21st (at least).

Earthbagging is a process of filling elongated sandbags with earth, sand etc, to build various constructions.  They are so strong that the originators of the concept (CalEarth) broke the earthquake testing machine when they went for building approval on a 2.5m dome house.  Earthbagging costs about 1/3 of the cost of the regular building process and has great thermal properties.  It is labour-intensive, but as you can see from the photos, great opportunities for community building, having lots of fun and being kind to the environment.

21 Apr.  Tamworth Organic Community Garden will be rendering the walls they have already constructed for a raised garden bed, then building a second one at Calrossy’s William Cowper Campus (map ) this Saturday at 8am.  On 28 Apr, they will be at the Montessori preschool in Bourke St.  They are preparing the garden beds for their Sustainable Living Expo in May.

For carpooling from Armidale on either day, please email heartandsoul-owner@slarmidale.org by 5pm on Friday or call Cathie on 0413 46 4026 after that time.  Cathie aims to leave Armidale by 6.45 am on 21st.
