Would you like to be in the bush among wildflowers while you do something practical for our local environment for an hour or three? If you like chatting, laughing, brainstorming or listening with like minded people, or working on your own, you can do that too.
There will be lots of wildflowers blooming in Snow Gums Bushland Reserve at the northern end of Markham St this month so do go and enjoy them. If you come to a working bee this Sunday you will be shown where the pink Trigger Plants hide, and offered Christmas cake and other morning tea. Previous work has protected them but other wildflowers and animal habitats are still threatened by weeds. Willing hands are needed to pull or lever weeds out of soft soil, or to mattock out briar rose or cut and poison other small but deep-rooted shrubs. The HiCUB project has helped reduce the weeds but new volunteers are needed to help the few regulars.
Armidale Tree Group is holding bushcare working bees most Thursdays between 4pm and 6.30 in this reserve as well as on Fridays from 9.30 am at Apex Lookout. No experience is needed – just wear practical clothing, footwear, hat and gloves if you have some – ATG provides tools and shows you what to do.
On Sunday come to the middle entrance to the reserve 200 m down Markham St from Erskine St. If you are interested in coming on a Thursday or Friday or have a question please phone Kate Boyd on {local land line prefix}2 4026.
