I send this message to your group to alert you to a current committee recruitment process currently being run by Council and your group has been suggested as an environmental group that could be the community voice in that regard on the committee.
Armidale Dumaresq Council is in the process of re-convening one of our advisory committees, the Floodplain Risk Management Committee. You may have seen the adverts requesting Expressions of Interest for community representatives to be on the committee that have appeared on Council’s page and on our website for the last two weeks.
The function of this committee is to assist Council in the assessment of flooding issues and the formulation of floodplain management policy for Armidale. The key guide for this work is the NSW Government’s Floodplain Development Manual.
Key members of the committee, in addition to State Agency representatives, Councillors and Council staff, are community representatives. The Floodplain Development Manual recommends that representation from an environmental group as a community representative would be desirable and I consider that your group could possibly fulfil this role.
In that regard, I attach a copy of Council’s advertisement and the Terms of Reference for the committee and I would appreciate if this information could be passed on as necessary with a view to obtaining an environmental group representative on the committee.
I apologise for the lateness of this contact considering submissions of Expressions of Interest close this coming Monday 31 January. If you are interested, please read these two documents below and then contact Bar Finch.
