10 green reasons to support container café

Kelly Jones has a vision for a green business. It may be the first of its kind outside an inner city setting. The idea, A Container Cafe right here in Armidale. She believes “It will be somewhere to spend your Sundays! Somewhere to take your dogs and still relax. Somewhere to entertain that is not a Pub. Somewhere to visit a weekly Artist Market. Somewhere to listen to electronic music in the afternoon sun. Somewhere to express street-art. And somewhere alternative that encompasses every genre of person living and moving to Armidale in 2010”. Kelly is looking for community support for the café, and you can show that support by visiting the website and/or getting in contact.

Here are 10 green reasons for the new business: (text taken from website)

1. Create Armidale’s first ever commercial Worm Farm – meaning we will build on premise a large worm farm which will be responsible for gobbling up all our waste and transforming it into healthy soil and fertilizer which we will then use to plant our extensive 2. Herb Garden, which will be used to flavour the beverages we sell at the cafe – lots of mint, coriander, parsley, sage & lavender. All of which will be placed in our 3. Recycled teacups and wineglasses – all purchased at garage sales & church fetes, which will be lovingly enjoyed whilst sitting on 4. Wooden Pallets – donated by local business to form the seating arrangement and infrastructure of the Container Cafe – which itself will be located on 5. Unused space and blended into its environment whether an old carpark or a green field – using what is there as its foundation, which is subject to 6. Seasonal Trading – the ultimate GREEN BUSINESS, whilst still maintaining a high standard of 7. Local Produce and Regional Wines, ensuring a great sense of 8. Community and free trade amongst our customers and marketplace – serviced and matradee’d by 9. Young People from the local area, who will be able to ‘pack up shop’ and remove all evidence of the Container Cafe whenever necessary – leaving 10. No Footprint behind as the natural environment moves back in unhindered by remaining foundations and waste.

We appreciate all your contributions and ideas. 2011 is going to be an exciting year for Armidale and we will be establishing the cafe in the next 2 months (all goes to plan fingers crossed!).  It is very exciting watching the community get involved with this wonderful idea. Thankyou everyone.
