Update from the climate frontlines

The climate is heating up around Australia, with drought and bushfires ravaging the country. Climate action is heating up too, responding to the emergency with protests continuing from city streets to mine sites. The clampdown from the government and mining industry is rising with the temperature as well – Queensland’s lock-on laws have been rushed through and come into effect, and Prime Minister Scott Morrison has threatened new laws against the kind of public pressure that has seen 61 companies so far distance themselves from working with Adani.

Here on the frontlines, things are continuing on. Adani is still working on their mine, building their dewatering bores and dam. People have been continuing to resist – most recently 53 year old carpenter Devan Tisdale locking himself to the rail line to Adani’s Abbot Pt coal terminal.

We’ve been consistently taking actions to put pressure on Adani, their potential contractors, and the government that is subsidising the mine. To keep up with what’s happening, be sure to follow our facebook or check out our website – while there you can also read blog articles like the recent Climate Tensions Coming To The Surface; or check out and share the latest Red Alert video update.

Over the last few months we’ve seen people of all ages, backgrounds and locations come to central Queensland to take action. This week there will be more, with health professionals and musicians both making the trek to protect our climate. We are also excited about the launch of Galilee Rising, a new initiative to try to get more people from around the country up here to the frontlines. If you want to take powerful action this summer, come join us and together we can stop Adani and build a movement for real climate justice.

See you on the frontlines!
