Register now — Speaking 4 the Planet

Thursday, 20 Jun
Armidale Regional Council, the Armidale Catholic Schools Office and 4Sustainability Education are once again holding a Speaking 4 the Planet competition to celebrate World Environment Day.  This is an invitation to participate. The Speaking 4 the Planet competition will be held on Thursday 20 June 2019 in the Council Chambers in Armidale. The event is free for schools and runs from 9.00 – 2.30.
Speaking 4 the Planet is a public speaking, drama and art competition for high schools in the Armidale region. Here’s a video from the Speaking 4 the Planet event at Mt Annan in South West Sydney in 2018. If you haven’t participated in one of these days before, the video will give you a sense of the benefits and fun for students and supporting organisations.

Speaking 4 the Planet is based on the United Nations’ World Environment Day theme. World Environment Day is celebrated in over 100 countries each year to raise worldwide awareness for the need to take positive environmental action – locally, nationally and globally.

The theme for the 2019 is not yet known. When it is, a resource package will be prepared for students and teachers. This package will contain ideas, links, images and videos related to the theme. It will be sent to schools that register in S4P.

The 2019 competition will be comprised of 5 categories:

  • Public speaking – prepared and impromptu (one student per school for each category)
  • Drama – impromptu (one group per school of up to 5 students)
  • Art – prepared art. Maximum 2 entries per school.
  • Writing – this is a new category! It will be impromptu and students will be asked to write a 30 word piece (fiction or non fiction).
