On 3 August 2014, over 3000 Yazidi civilians were murdered and 6000 taken captive by ISIS in the Sinjar district of northern Iraq. This is massacre and abduction is widely regarded as an act of genocide.
Armidale became an official refugee settlement location last year, and since February this year, 22 Yazidi families who survived this genocide have settled here.
The local Yazidi community is organising a gathering in remembrance of those who have been lost in the genocide,
and they would like members of the general public to attend.
- Date: 3 August 2018
- Time: 4.00-5.30 pm
- Place: Armidale City Church Hall, 68A Markham Street
Please come along to support the newest members of the Armidale community, and to learn more about Yazidi culture and history.
