Towards a Healthier Macleay River

Chandler River from Gibson's Open Cut: M. ForresterYou are invited to attend a meeting of interested community members on Saturday 17th February at the Wicklow Hotel (Cocktail Room), 87 Marsh St, Armidale from 2 – 4pm, to discuss impacts on the health of the Macleay River and the possibility of forming a partnership to encompass the catchment from the mountains to the ocean.

Save Our Macleay River Assn Inc (SOMR) has experienced some success in the lower part of the Macleay Catchment since it was established in 2013 – building partnerships and communication channels with mining companies, universities, government agencies and community groups.

SOMR has been able to inform the community of issues impacting on the river, promote the beauty and importance of the river and support projects aimed at improving water quality in the catchment.

SOMR has been involved with drawing attention to the poor effort of rehabilitation at Comet Vale, and opposed the Mine Expansion Development Application at Clark’s Gully – these issues have led to an increase in understanding from members of the community living in the New England part of the catchment, there is interest in forming an upriver branch of SOMR.

If you have an interest in the health of the river you are very welcome to attend.

With Thanks,

Arthur Bains, President SOMR Facebook
