‘Celebrating action towards sustainable living in Armidale’ will be the topic for this week’s Thursday Forum presented by SLA.
“The period since 2007, when Armidale held its first Sustainable Living Expo, has been particularly inspiring” said SLA member Helen Webb, who will be presenting at the forum. “SLA has kept pamphlets, publications and newspaper clippings on Sustainable Living issues since 2007, and I have been amazed, looking through them, at how much has happened, and how many people have participated.”
“Action has been taken towards sustainability in a whole range of areas, including looking after our climate, air, water, earth and biodiversity, sustainable energy use, sustainable resource use, food production, growing your own veges, housing, transport, sustainable business, recycling and waste management. There is a real sense of the community working together with local government and local businesses to achieve change. This forum will be celebrating action not only by members of Sustainable Living Armidale, but also of other organisations, businesses, the wider community, education facilities and Local Government.”
“Local news media has been really important in helping to make people aware of the issues and in spreading the message as to what sustainable living means. Support from local MPs and financial backing from Local, State and Federal Government also makes a significant difference in enabling action towards sustainability, such as recycling of vegetable waste and support for renewable energy options and urban biodiversity. ”
The SLA forum will follow on from a brief Annual General Meeting which will start at 7.00 pm and will be held at Kent House on Thursday 2 July. All are welcome to attend – gold coin donation appreciated. Show your support for sustainable living in Armidale by taking out or renewing membership on the night.
