Put the kettle on – Hosting your Cuppa Sunshine 18 – 24 August

Monday, 18 Aug
10:00 am

cuppa_sunshine_logo_web_2The next few weeks are critical for solar with the Renewable Energy Target review panel set to report to government – can you help by hosting a morning tea and writing a simple letter?

We know the government is trying to axe or gut the Target – and its unnecessary review, headed up by noted sceptic Dick Warburton, will report in the next few weeks. But the government has had a spanner thrown in the works by key cross bench senators from the Palmer United Party and Ricky Muir – who are saying they will vote to keep solar strong in Parliament.

A weakened or scrapped Renewable Energy Target will destroy solar jobs, reduce investment in the solar industry in Australia and stop people from taking control of their energy bills.

Will you host a Cuppa Sunshine in August and help keep solar strong?

For one week in August, people will come together around Australia in workplaces, cafes, living rooms and local communities to enjoy a Cuppa Sunshine.

This national event is an opportunity for you to get together with your friends, workmates, neighbours or community groups to show key balance of power senators just how much Australians care about a strong solar future – by writing a personal letter with good ol’ fashioned pen and paper.

Hosting your Cuppa Sunshine is easy – and it can be as big or as small as you like.

While recent statements of support for solar from key cross bench senators like Ricky Muir and the Palmer United senators are a very positive development, we know they are under huge pressure from the big power companies who want to see solar stopped in its tracks.

But heartfelt, handwritten letters can make a huge difference. For each handwritten letter a politician receives on an issue, they know there are many other people out there who feel the same way.

If each of the cross bench senators hears from at least 100 of their local constituents in a handwritten letter, there will be a tide of solar support they can’t ignore.

Will you host a Cuppa Sunshine in your community? Sign up on our website and we’ll provide everything you need to make your event a success.

Every day, support for solar in Australia is growing. Showing we back up senators who are standing up for more solar is the most important thing we can do to lock in a solar future for our nation.
