Earth Hour 2014 – Saturday 29th March 8.30pm

This is just a heads up Armidale, with a meeting planned of interested parties next week. Let me know if you want to be involved through the contact page.

Message from the Earth Hour team,

We are hoping you’re as excited as we are for the potential to involve the Armidale community in Earth Hour. There are two main opportunities for your community to be involved:

  • Host a screening of the Earth Hour documentary special

This year, the centrepiece of Earth Hour will be hundreds of decentralised screenings of an Earth Hour documentary that tells the story of climate change through the story of what’s happening to one of Australia’s most loved places – the Great Barrier Reef. We would love to work with your council to hold a candle-lit, green energy or solar powered screening in an iconic or interesting venue (either indoor or outdoor) during Earth Hour. We envisage these events to be special experiences that Australians more deeply to the issue of climate change. The events are also a great opportunity to engage people in your community with the great sustainability work your council is doing. The event could be as small as a gathering with council staff, or as large as an outdoor under-the-stars picnic screening with bands, local speakers and children’s entertainment.

  • Collect and share climate stories from your community

At its heart, Earth Hour is about communities – and the beautiful, bold idea that all of us together can inspire action to solve the climate crisis. There are thousands of amazing stories from around Australia of how everyday Australians are experiencing climate change impacts and creating climate change solutions. In 2014 we are seeking to unearth and amplify these stories from your local community. Do you know a local climate hero from your community? Does your town have a renewable energy success story? Has it been affected by severe weather, bushfires or drought? And do you know people who are going above and beyond to overcome these challenges? Earth Hour in 2014 will be providing a platform to share these stories around the country. Simply let us know if you have a story which needs to be shared with Australia and we’ll do the rest.

And remember to save the date: Saturday 29th March 2014 at 8.30pm.

Best wishes

Anna Rose, Reece Proudfoot and the Earth Hour Team
