Great news: it has all happened very suddenly (hence the lack of prior notice), but as of yesterday afternoon our beautiful chook house built for us by the TAS boys is now actually housing 3 of our very own chooks! They are beautiful – and huge! The chooks are young Plymouth Rocks, and have been donated to the garden by Pat Schultz (thank you Pat) Terry had only just finished adding the top layer of wire netting to the chook run, and there were still a few finishing touches to be seen to when Pat made us her offer, so we raced to get it all ready for our new girls and now they are settling into their new home, and have already laid 2 gorgeous brown eggs!

They will stay shut in the chook house for a few days to get used to their new surroundings, but after that we will need to get ourselves organized so that they can be let out into their run each morning and shut in again at night. Shutting in can be taken care of easily enough when the garden is open anyway, but will need to happen also on the other 3 afternoons.

I’m hoping that we can form a group of people who live quite close to the garden (maybe some who frequently walk their dogs over there anyway?) who would be willing to be on a roster to call in and let our girls out in the mornings or to shut them back in at night on afternoons that the garden isn’t open. Please, make me an offer! We can offer some fresh vegies and/or eggs in return!
