SUMMARY:NPA Forum: Managing Travelling Stock Routes
DESCRIPTION:Managing Travelling Stock Routes for Ecological Significance and stock use At Kent house 141 Faulkner St Armidale. \n\n6.00pm- Join us for supper of homemade soups (vegetarian or chicken and vegetable)\n6.45pm- Forum on Travelling Stock Routes with guest speaker Ross Fuller of LLS Q&A\, discussion\n7.45pm– Tea and dessert break\n8 pm- NPA members meeting (all welcome): short update on activities\, time for you to raise issues\n\nZoom link:   https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81670358156 \nRoss has spent 10 years with Local Land Services managing the network of Travelling Stock Routes and Reserves (TSR’s) which criss-cross the tablelands between Inverell\, Tenterfield\, Armidale and Walcha. They are vital wildlife corridors and include some of the best remaining examples of the grassy woodlands that used to cover the better soils across the tablelands. Tenders are open for 5-year grazing leases over many of them. Do stock and graziers always get priority over conserving natural values? How are weeds and pest animals managed? \nNPA is separate from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)\, a government department. \nArmidale Branch of National Parks Association celebrated 50 years i1974 – 2024

SUMMARY:Electrify Armidale: Home Energy Upgrades for Comfort and Every Budget
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Living Armidale (SLA)\, Electrify Armidale\, and partners are excited to be bringing a new program to Armidale this year\, the Armidale Community-Driven Shift to Renewable Energy and Sustainability. Thanks to the Future for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and with funding through their Community-Led Climate Solutions\, we’ve secured a grant to enable us to run a series of events designed to make energy efficiency and electrification easy and accessible\, and to help local communities make the most out of the renewable energy generation that is coming to the region. Working alongside our partners UNE SRI and Community Power Agency this initiative is spearheaded by Electrify Armidale for a Renewable Energy Future. \n\n\n\nThroughout the year\, a series of FREE public events will offer hands-on learning experiences empowering residents and businesses to cut energy costs\, improve home efficiency\, and actively engage in the clean energy transition. Covering everything from home energy upgrades and electric vehicles to battery storage and large-scale renewable projects\, the program will connect the community with expert advice\, financial incentives\, and trusted suppliers. \n\n\n\nThe first launching event\, Electrify Armidale Community Program: Home Energy Upgrades for Comfort and Every Budget\, will be held on March 27th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the UNE SRI.  We would like to extend a warm invitation to your members and the Armidale and regional community to attend. This event is for anyone – be they renters\, homeowners\, energy professionals\, business leaders or community advocates. All you need is an interest in reducing energy bills\, exploring energy efficiency and improving comfort and engagement for all. \n\n\n\nExpert speakers include: \n\n\n\n\nCalum Harvey-Scholes – Rewiring Australia and Electrify 2515 pilot program\n\n\n\nJaime Comber – Energy Upgrades for Australian Homes\, UTS\n\n\n\nPiroska Bisits-Bullen – ZapCat\, Electrify Everything\n\n\n\nMatt Peterson – Automised Energy\, Regain Control of Your Power Bills\n\n\n\nMahalath Halperin –  Eco architect and environmental assessor

SUMMARY:Talk: Healthy and sustainable food systems
DESCRIPTION:We have undertaken research into how to simultaneously improve human and planetary health by building alternative community food infrastructures (CFIs) that are socially and environmentally just. This has all been part of the Armidale Climate and Health Project\, supported by funding from UNE. At this free public presentation we will share the results of our research and our plans for the next steps events in the community. \nThe talk will be given by Jen Hamilton and Nikki Larder\, researchers from UNE. \nBackground: \nCFIs are small-scale\, physical and organisational structures and facilities that support the development of healthy and sustainable food systems and communities. They enable access to healthy food for marginalised groups who suffer a disproportionate chronic disease and health burden\, while also supporting the adaptation of the wider agri-food system. Examples include community gardens\, food cooperatives\, food banks\, food relief services\, free or low cost soup kitchens and community dinners\, food co-ops and pay-what-you can restaurants. \nWe are especially interested in collective community meal provision\, and have experimented with different kinds of community meals in Armidale and also researched community meal initiatives across greater Sydney. One of the things we found is that it is very hard for community organisations to find affordable food to provide for the community in need while also sourcing sustainably produced food. This food tends to be more expensive and a luxury item for wealthier people. We are interested in this dilemma and the barriers involved in addressing it\, because both to long term public health and wellbeing and also to climate adaptation.

SUMMARY:Pilliga Tag–Along Tours
DESCRIPTION:The Pilliga Tag-along tour is a not-for-profit tour. It is an activist tour aiming to educate and highlight the dire impacts of coal seam gas. It is tour that contrasts the beauty of the Pilliga with the visible impacts of mining. \nCar sharing is encouraged\, as fuel is the largest cost. Self-catering is an option; costs are kept to a minimum. \n\nDay 1 We will visit either the Barradine Forest Discovery Centre\, the Sculptures In The Scrub or Fire tower and Salt Caves and the Sandstone Caves. From the top of the fire tower enjoy extensive views of The Pilliga\, with views of the Warrumbungles and Mount Kaputar. If time permits we will visit Dandry Gorge; take a 3 km walk to see the beauty of this rugged country and the amazing sculptures\, then a 1.7km walk to view the beautiful colours and Aboriginal art in the Sandstone Caves.\nDay 2 we tour the coal seam gas fields: visit ‘produced water’ spills; and see poorly rehabilitated areas on old exploration sites\, gas pipelines\, pilot production wells\, and previously unlined produced water ponds. Santos’s infrastructure and hear about the risks to the Great Artesian Basin.\n\nThe Santos leasehold in the Gunnedah Basin includes 53 current wells in the Pilliga and 850 proposed wells in the Pilliga and adjoining farmlands. \nPat Schultz\, National Parks association\, Armidale Branch \nBookings essential  Email pat.schultz@bigpond.com  Phone or message Pat {mobile prefix oh for}28725852
