Hi All,

Kate reminded me that the public exhibition of Armidale's Local Environment
Plan ends tomorrow:
http://www.armidale.nsw.gov.au/index.php?option=com_jentlacontent&view=enhanced&id=486414

The main point of contention is the proposed rezoning of schools and other
public areas to residential.
This means that if the State Government wants to sell off land for housing,
it won't have to apply to council before doing so.
I'd like to see the checks and balances that such as having to apply to
council first retained in the system - school land serves the whole
community, so councils and the community should have a say before it is
sold for housing.

Originally, the State Government insisted that school land should be
rezoned, but when a representative came up to Armidale, we were told that
we could, in fact, retain the current zoning.

If you think this is a good idea, it would be well worth making a brief
submission to council to let them know that there is community support for
retaining the current zoning.

Regards,
Dorothy
PS - Sorry for the cross posting, but I'm not sure the general email will
be reach people in time to take any action.
