Waste > art & design competition is on again

Thursday, 30 May
5:00 pm

Clever recycling truly is an art form, thanks to a design competition launched this week by Council.

The ‘waste > art & design competition’ invites creative locals to turn trash into treasure – celebrating creativity and resourcefulness while inspiring the community to consider ways unwanted items or ‘waste’ can be reused and recycled.

Entries in this year’s ‘waste > art & design competition’ will be exhibited from 3-8 June to coincide with World Environment Day.

Entries in previous years have included works created out of obsolete technology, plastic bottles, plastic bags, recycled junk and worn car tyres.

The competition includes categories for preschool children, primary and secondary students, university students and the general public. Entries can be:

  • Art (two dimensional, three dimensional or sculpture)
  • Functional Art (furniture/home ware/inventions)
  • Textiles & Wearable Art
  • Building or Elements of Building or Large Sculpture (photographic entries only)

All entries must incorporate the use of recycled or pre-loved materials.

Entries will be accepted from 29 to 30 May, at a venue to be confirmed.

The winners of each category will be announced at the exhibition official opening on Monday 3 June at 5.30pm and will receive prize vouchers.

Visitors to the exhibition will also have an opportunity to vote for their favourite work.

Entry forms and full details of the competition – including categories and conditions of entry – are available on Council’s web page.

Printed entry forms can also be collected from Council’s offices at Armidale and Guyra or by contacting Sally Thorsteinsson at sthorsteinsson@armidale.nsw.gov.au or {local landline prefix}0 3982 or or Hayley Ward at hward@armidale.nsw.gov.au or {local landline prefix}0 3824
