These two koalas lost their mothers to deforestation

Hi SLA,

I recently met an incredible wildlife carer, Vickii, who shared heart-wrenching stories of injured koalas brought into her care. Like other wildlife carers in NSW she sees firsthand the brutal impact of deforestation on koalas.

It’s the ugly truth of deforestation that the NSW Government doesn’t want you to know about, and that’s why we had to share Vickii’s story.

New laws passed by the NSW Government last year are putting koalas and other iconic Australian wildlife at grave risk. Deforestation and land clearing is destroying wildlife habitat, and injuring or killing animals in the process.

“The main threat – and I don’t think anyone would dispute this, is habitat loss. They rely on these particular trees to survive, and now we’re taking those trees away.” – Vickii Lett, WIRES wildlife rescuer and carer

For wildlife carers like Vickii, it’s getting more and more difficult to find healthy and safe habitat to release the animals they have rescued and brought back to health.

We can’t let the deforestation crisis in NSW continue to be ignored.

“If the community says to politicians, ‘this isn’t good enough’, then I will have hope.” – Vickii Lett

Help Vickii share her story and get more people saying to politicians – this isn’t good enough!

Thank you for standing up for koalas with wildlife carers like Vickii,
