A historic opportunity: support National Parks in NSW

This week, the Liberal-National Government will introduce the National Park Estate (Reservations) Bill 2018 to Parliament. This Bill will add a small amount of land to the national parks system, much less than what has been identified as critical for conservation.

This is a historic opportunity to expand national parks in NSW and protect our precious biodiversity for the future.

Members of parliament will be moving amendments that will:

  • Expand our existing national parks by more than 200,000 hectares
  • Conserve areas of critical koala significance across the state, including creating the Great Koala National Park on the mid-north coast
  • Protect the iconic Gardens of Stone in the Blue Mountains, and
  • Stop the expansion of destructive coal projects, including the Wallarah 2 mine on the Central Coast and the Maules Creek coal mine.

We need your help to put pressure on the Liberal-National Government and Labor to support these amendments.

Our environment is facing huge threats. Deforestation is out of control while big coal and gas wreck our land and water. All sides of politics have admitted that our koalas are in dangerous decline, but the government has failed to take necessary action to protect critical koala habitat.

By amending the National Park Estate (Reservations) Bill 2018, we will protect key forests around the state from coal mining and logging and ensure the future of our threatened native animals.
