The town library has kindly purchased the following books on sustainable intentional communities at the request of SLA Community’s sub-group, Village:
- Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities
- Ecovillage at Ithaca
“I was very excited to read the description of the City of Ithaca in America, as it sounds so similar to Armidale”, reports Cathie Lamont, the convenor of Village. Page 22 reads “Today Ithaca shines as a jewel in the Finger Lakes region … Not only is Ithaca relatively unpolluted, says the article [Organic Style Magazine Oct 2003)], but it also sports “a lively mix of academics from Cornell University and Ithaca College, vintners, organic farmers and preservationists, artists, musicians, and a community that teems with theater, politics, art festivals, and music” … Remarkable scenery matches the lively and progressive local culture … waterfalls … Taughannock Falls, the highest free-falling waterfall in the East ..” Even the poulation is similar, with 30,000 permanent residents!
The library also has books on sustainable houses, although they’re a bit hard to find. If you search for “sustainable house” you’ll find some other gems, some of which are Australian. Hope you find them useful.
